BOOK A CLEANERThis Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement sets out the steps Hackney Cleaners has taken, and continues to take, to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking within our business operations and supply chains. Hackney Cleaners is committed to conducting all aspects of its business in an ethical and transparent manner that respects the rights and dignity of all individuals.
Modern slavery is a crime and a serious violation of fundamental human rights. It takes various forms, including slavery, servitude, forced or compulsory labour, and human trafficking, all of which involve the deprivation of a person’s liberty for personal or commercial gain. Hackney Cleaners has a zero-tolerance approach to all forms of modern slavery.
Hackney Cleaners provides professional cleaning services to residential and commercial customers. Our workforce is a combination of directly engaged staff and subcontracted operatives. Our supply chains include providers of cleaning products, equipment, workwear, and related services required to support our operations.
We recognise that risks of modern slavery can arise in lower wage sectors, outsourced labour arrangements, and extended international supply chains. We therefore place particular focus on suppliers and contractors involved in the provision of labour, as well as manufacturers and distributors of cleaning products and consumables.
Hackney Cleaners operates a strict zero-tolerance policy towards modern slavery and human trafficking in all its forms. We are committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business dealings and relationships. We expect the same high standards from everyone we work with, including employees, agency workers, contractors, and suppliers.
Our policy prohibits the use of forced, compulsory, or trafficked labour, or anyone held in slavery or servitude, whether adults or children. We do not tolerate any practices that restrict freedom of movement, withhold identity documents, use debt bondage, or impose coercive recruitment fees.
We require our key suppliers and contractors to comply with all applicable labour and human rights laws and to align with our zero-tolerance stance on modern slavery. As part of our supplier onboarding process, we assess potential partners for ethical practices, labour standards, and transparency in their own supply chains.
Hackney Cleaners carries out risk-based supplier audits and reviews. Higher risk suppliers may be required to provide additional evidence of compliance, including confirmations of employment conditions, working hours, wages, and freedom of association. Where appropriate, we reserve the right to conduct site visits or request third-party verification to validate compliance.
Where non-compliance or serious concerns are identified, we will work with the supplier to implement corrective actions within clear timeframes. If a supplier is unwilling or unable to meet our standards, we may suspend or terminate the relationship.
Hackney Cleaners encourages a culture of openness where concerns about modern slavery, exploitation, or unethical practices can be raised without fear of retaliation. All employees, workers, contractors, and suppliers are expected to report any suspicions or evidence of modern slavery within our operations or supply chains.
Concerns can be raised through established internal reporting channels, including management reporting lines and confidential whistleblowing mechanisms. Reports will be treated seriously, handled sensitively, and investigated promptly. Where appropriate, we will cooperate with relevant authorities and take immediate steps to protect any individuals at risk.
Responsibility for overseeing our approach to modern slavery rests with the senior management team of Hackney Cleaners. Managers responsible for procurement, supplier management, and workforce engagement receive guidance on identifying and managing modern slavery risks.
We provide information and awareness to staff about recognising signs of exploitation, such as control over personal documents, unusual accommodation arrangements, or inconsistencies in work conditions. Employees are reminded that they must report any concerns, however minor they may appear.
Hackney Cleaners is committed to continuous improvement in our efforts to combat modern slavery. We regularly review our policies, procedures, and supplier controls to strengthen our approach and respond to emerging risks.
This Modern Slavery Statement is reviewed and updated annually by senior management to ensure it remains effective, relevant, and aligned with best practice and legal requirements. The review considers feedback from audits, incident reports, stakeholder engagement, and changes in our business or supply chains.
By publishing this statement, Hackney Cleaners reaffirms its commitment to upholding human rights, promoting fair and safe working conditions, and taking all reasonable steps to ensure that modern slavery and human trafficking have no place in our organisation or in the partners with whom we work.
